Robert F. Kennedy Bridge

(Triborough Bridge)

The RFK Bridge—formerly known as the Triborough Bridge—is one of New York City’s most important transportation links, connecting Manhattan, Queens, and Bronx. Opened in 1936, it is not a single bridge but a complex of three spans supported by a network of roadways and ramps.

Designed during the era of large-scale infrastructure expansion, the bridge reflects both engineering ambition and urban necessity. Its steel structures and sweeping approaches allow thousands of vehicles to pass daily, making it a vital artery for commuters and commerce.

Renamed in honor of Robert F. Kennedy, the bridge today stands as both a functional landmark and a symbolic connection between boroughs—linking not just geography, but the diverse communities that define New York City.
